Eligible HGV drivers travelling to the UK without a visa need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) if they do not need a visa for short stays of up to six months, or do not already have a UK immigration status. From 25 February 2026, those who do not have an ETA will be unable to board their transport and will not be permitted to travel to the UK.

Home Office colleagues have produced video and display assets aimed at hauliers travelling to the UK. These are already in use at several ports and are available for stakeholders to incorporate into their communications.

Please see this link to the shareable partner pack, which stakeholders can use to assist with their communications on ETA. Further guidance is also available at GOV.UK/ETA

The easiest way to apply for an ETA is via the ‘UK ETA app’, which can be downloaded from the Google Play or Apple App Store.

If you have any questions about ETA communications, please contact the team at ETAcommunications@homeoffice.gov.uk
