Transit process

As part of the continued development of CustomsLink services, by the end of May we will be offering our new Transit service.*

This means Exporters and Hauliers can choose to utilise CustomsLink's Transit guarantee when moving goods to a third country other than the country of arrival.

For example, Great Britain to Germany via France.

Once your account is enabled, by using CustomsLink Transit Service you can immediately use our transit guarantee to enable swift movement of you or customers goods.

PROCEDURE FAILURES

Feedback from HMRC is that many exporters and hauliers are failing to follow the strict procedures for opening and closing transits. If the goods are not departing from an authorised consignor or being delivered to an authorised consignee, the vehicle goods and driver MUST report to the office of exit and the office of arrival, as well as ensuring the office of transit process is completed.

If the driver fails to do this, the guarantee amount WILL be removed from the guarantee by HMRC, meaning that this could be a VERY expensive mistake.

Traders / Hauliers will be able to use their own guarantee in raising Transits through the CustomsLink platform, or may be able to use the CustomsLink Guarantee - CustomsLink may require indemnities or deposits from users of the Transit Guarantee product.

HANDY TIP

When planning a transit movement, it is important to have costed in the time and mileage of attending the transit offices of departure and destination in your routing.

It is essential that the driver follows these procedures.
